LAHORE – Airport Police allegedly thrashed a correspondent of a private news channel who went there to cover the arrival of the Indian delegation of the communist party on Saturday.
The reporter, Hassan Iftikhar, was beaten up for covering the arrival; he was left with a dislocated wrist and was rushed to the Services Hospital. Hassan, son of a prominent TV anchor Iftikhar Ahmad, said he was waiting for the delegation at the arrival lounge when six armed policemen from the Airport Police Chowki tortured and shoved him out of the place.
The Chowki Incharge Saleem Shoukat said Constable Naeem was involved in the scuffle but did not thrash him. He said Hassan only fell on the floor while they were barring him to cover the event. “Escorting the delegations and VIPs is our duty and we need to be proactive to prevent any untoward happening,” he said.
