Two policemen were gunned down while two others were injured when some unidentified armed men opened fire at a police cordon in the Shera Kot area late Sunday night.
According to the police, the incident took place when the police signaled a suspicious car to stop after which the people riding in the car opened fire at the police cordon.
Two policemen, identified as Muhammad Mushtaq and Zahid Shakeel, lost their lives, while two others were injured.
The injured policemen were rushed to the Mayo Hospital. The Police registered a case against the unknown armed men in the local police station. Law enforcement agencies also cordoned off the area and started a search operation to arrest the culprits.
DIG Operations Roy Tahir visited the Mayo Hospital on Monday morning and enquired about the health of the injured cops. He assured that the accused involved in the incident would be arrested soon.
Turkish police train Pakistani police: Police officers protecting the Turkish Prime Ministry Office are training the Pakistani police officials who serve as guards at the Turkish Prime Ministry.
The training is taking place in Lahore within the framework of a training and cooperation agreement signed by the Turkish and Punjab state police organisations, according to Turkish news agency Anadolu. Seven Turkish police officers are training 33 members of the Punjab police. After the training programme, the 33 Pakistani police officers will protect the head of state, prime minister, and foreign leaders and high-level executives who will visit Pakistan.
The Turkish police officers, who were received twice by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, are pleased with the interest they have seen in the Pakistani state. Under the agreement, the Turkish police will also train Pakistani police officers on fighting against illicit smuggling, organised crime, and illicit drug trafficking.
The Pakistani officials will pay eight visits to Turkey to complete their training programme.
