AFIC capable of conducting all kinds of heart surgeries: Commandant

Commandant of Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) Major-General Dr Asif Ali Khan said that theinstitute has the capability to conduct all kind of heart surgeries ina most professional manner. Talking to APP, he said AFIC is fully equipped with modern technologies and latest machinery. “AFIC has all the facilities to deal with minor and major heart surgeries in the country so the patients have no need to go abroad for heart treatment,” he said. He said simple lifestyle, balanced diet and regular exercise are important factors to prevent cardiovascular diseases. He said the important risk factors that cause heart attacks are smoking, high cholesterol diet, sedentary lifestyle, high blood pressure, obesity and high blood sugar levels. “If we control the risk factors, we can control and reduce the risk of heart attack and its complications,” he added. He said AFIC was utilising all available resources to treat poor and needy patients also. He urged philanthropists to come forward and play their role in helping heart patients and provide them with treatment.
18,000 tons of garbage removed in Rawalpindi: Solid Waste Management District Officer DrMazhar Azeem said that 18,000 tons of garbage has been lifted to keep the city neat and clean. The cleanliness campaign which was launched in 46 union councils of the city is going successful, he said and added that 44 union councils have been cleaned while the remaining UC 15 and UC 16 will be cleaned soon. More than 25 vehicles are engaged to lift garbage and waste from different areas. He said that total 8 plots were cleared and building material also lifted from Potohar and Rawal Town areas. The district officer said that every effort is being made to make Rawalpindi a model city. “This is duty of every one to play his role for the beautification and decoration of the city,” he added. The cleanliness campaign was launched on April 26.
Earlier, the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry NisarAli Khan directed the members of the Punjab Assembly, Ziaullah Shah, Malik Ghulam Raza, Raja Hanif advocate and Sheheryar Riaz as well as Municipal Services EDO Imtiaz Ahmad Malik and District Officer Special Planning Ali Imran to ensure their visits to various areas of the city to supervise the cleanliness drive.
The PML-N MPAs appealed to the people not to throw garbage in the streets and extend cooperation to the sanitation staff in the cleanliness drive.
