KARACHI – All parties should speed up their efforts for maintaining peace in Karachi and participate in the All Parties Conference (APC) called for the law and order situation, which would be a milestone in the path towards peace, Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Information Sharmila Farooqui said on Friday.
Talking to journalists in her office, she said the PPP does not want a conflict with any party and was very serious about maintaining the law and order in the province, especially in Karachi, for which it has invited all political and religious parties on one platform.
She added that the Sindh government had taken many important steps for maintaining peace in Karachi and the extension in the powers granted to Pakistan Rangers was part of this process.
“The Sindh police have been equipped with modern weapons and devices, police patrol has been increased in certain areas and coordination between intelligence agencies has been improved,” Farooqi said.
The adviser said that all patriotic and peace loving parties are sincere in maintaining law and order, and now it is the duty of all political and religious parties to forget their differences and cooperate with the government to maintain peace in Karachi.
“I request all parties to keep an eye on the black sheep in their ranks because peace in Karachi means development of Pakistan,” she said, adding that the government under the leadership of President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza were taking all possible measures for peace in the city.
“Sindh is the land of Sufis and the people of Sindh have always been peace-loving. We all should work for peace in order to give our children a peaceful Pakistan,” she said.
Wishing for peace is not a weakness of the government but it wants to take all parties on board in the better interest of the country and it is satisfactory that all coalition partners are with the democratic government, she maintained.
