ISAF Commander General John Allen held an important meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani on Saturday.
Well-placed sources said that restoration of the NATO supply that was suspended after the attack in November last year also was discussed.
An ISAF delegation, led by General John Allen, Commander ISAF, arrived at Rawalpindi, Saturday to attend Tri Partite Commission meeting.
The security sources, however, said that the COAS reiterated that the parliament and the Defense’s Cabinet Committee would decide the issue.
Pakistan and ISAF agreed to further enhance coordination system so that any untoward incidents along the bordering areas could be avoided in future, a statement of ISPR said.
According to ISPR in the bilateral meeting between Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and ISAF Commander General John Allen, the two sides also focused on operations in border areas.
The NATO/ISAF attack against Pakistani posts in November that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers had strained ties between Pakistan and the US as well as resulted in suspending supplies to the NATO in Afghanistan.
After the attack improved coordination among the forces of Pakistan and NATO in the bordering areas was stressed.
A Security official said that the two sides also discussed war on terror besides restoration of the NATO supply and other issues of mutual interest.
Security sources said that the bilateral meeting was held Saturday but the tripartite meeting was likely to be held on Sunday when the Afghan army chief, General Sher Muhammad Karimi would be present in Rawalpindi.
This would be the first Tri Partite meeting after the parliament submitted its recommendation pertaining to restoration of NATO supply, drone attacks.
The country has demanded a formal apology from the US for the cross-border attack before it reopens the supply routes, and has also called for an end to US drone strikes on its tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
The Pakistani Army chief and Gen Allen, the top American commander in Afghanistan, and the Afghan Army chief will be attending the meeting of the Tripartite Commission.
The NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has already said that Pakistan could miss out on the important summit on future of Afghanistan to be held in Chicago on May 20-21 if it fails to reopen supply routes in time.
