Islamabad – The Pakistan People’s party core committee late on Friday took stock of the country’s economic and political situation, also considering a reshuffle in the federal cabinet on the basis of the performance of the ministers.
A source informed Pakistan Today that the meeting held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr also reviewed the law and order situation in the country, especially in Karachi and Quetta.
The meeting, which continued until the filing of this report, took serious notice of the sacking of over 4,000 employees of the KESC. It said the sacking of employees on such a large scale was against the spirit of the agreement under which the KESC had been privatised.
The meeting appointed a three member committee comprising Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaz Ashraf, Minister for Labour and Manpower Khurshid Ahmed Shah and Adviser to the Prime Minister Senator Raza Rabbani to help resolve the issue in consultation with the provincial chief minister and the governor. The meeting reiterated its commitment to standby the working classes. It recalled the reinstatement of sacked employees in the recent past and said the party will not abandon the labour and the working classes.
Rehman Malik briefed the meeting on the situation in Karachi, while Babar Awan gave a briefing on the negotiations with political parties, including PML-N. Rabbani expressed concern over the situation in Sindh, especially the ignorance of Rehman Malik and Zulfiqar Mirza regarding the operation in Orangi. On Nabeel Gabol’s resignation, an insider said the party is not happy with his attitude and his performance in his constituency and ” he may be on his way out”.
