LAHORE – Former PM Benazir Bhutto’s killers would soon be exposed and punished, Punjab Governor Latif Khosa said on Friday. He was addressing Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers after inaugurating PPP Lahore chapter’s office and distributing cheques among workers at the Aiwan-e-Iqbal.
Khosa said that the country’s history was full of sacrifices and it was because of sacrifices of PPP workers that the party was ruling the country. He said that the PPP was committed to eliminate poverty and unemployment and these problems could be overcome by empowerment of women. The Punjab governor said that the federal government would provide assistance through financial institutions so that women could start small businesses and cottage industries even in towns and small cities.
Khosa said that the federal and provincial governments would fulfill Benazir’s agenda of empowering women because no society could progress without participation of women in economic, social and political fields. The governor said that a unanimous strategy be made to tackle financial challenges facing the country adding that the PPP would never compromise on national security. He said that the party was united under leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari.
Khosa paid tributes to slain Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer saying that he was a true comrade of PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The governor said that Taseer rendered a lot of services to the party and the country due to which the party would not let his blood go in vain and his murderer would be definitely punished. He said that he had talked in detail about Taseer’s murder with the Punjab Police IG.
The governor appreciated Federal Social Welfare Minister and PPP Lahore President Samina Khalid Ghurki’s efforts for opening the party’s office in Lahore. Khosa announced Rs 60,000 on the spot and Rs 5,000 per month for medical treatment of party worker Muhammad Sadiq alias Sayen Heera.
