Five newly confirmed judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) were administered the oath of office by Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed on Friday during a simple but impressive ceremony held at the at the LHC judges’ lounge. The judges who took the oath included Justice Ibrahim Qureshi, Justice Abdul Sattar Asghar, Justice Mahmood Maqbool, Justice Amir Bhatti and Justice Aminuddin Khan.
The oath taking ceremony was attended by the judges of the LHC, Punjab Advocate General Ashtar Ausaf, Punjab Bar Council Vice-Chairman Justice Ghulam Abbas Naswana, LHCBA President Shehram Sarwar, federal and provincial law officers, the families of judges and a large number of senior lawyers.
After due consideration by the Judicial Commission and later by the Parliamentary Committee on the Appointment of Judges in the Superior Courts, the nominations were forwarded to Prime Minister Gilani who, in turn, advised President Zardari to accord approval.President Zardari, acting upon advice of the prime minister, had confirmed the judges on Thursday.
