Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Central Senior Vice President Amir Muqam has said the prime minister should not remain in office after his conviction, adding that the people should not sit calmly until the implementation of apex court’s verdict against the prime minister.
“Protests will continue throughout the country until the PM steps down and resigns from his position,” Muqam said while was addressing a public gathering of PML-N supporters at Odigram area of Swat on Friday. Muqam said Gilani was now no more a constitutional prime minister and should leave for Multan. “Gilani is using taxpayer’s money to spending million of dollars on his visit to England along with his ministers and secretaries.” Muqam said the corrupt government and its allies had reposed confidence in a convicted prime minister as they knew that if the Supreme Court succeeded in nabbing the biggest corrupt leader of the country, they would ultimately be brought to justice as well. Condemning the recent drone strikes in Waziristan, he said President Zardari was responsible for it, as after SC’s decision no prime minister existed in the country. “Unanimous resolutions against the drone strikes yielded no results, same will be the fate of resolution recently passed against the judiciary by the parliament,” he added. Venting his anger on the PPP government, Muqam said, “Can they show us any relief which they provided to the people of Pakistan, rather they only put burden on the people in the shape of unemployment, price hike, load shedding and foreign loans.” Criticizing the Jamaat-e-Islami leadership, Muqam said, “Yes they issued me a ticket but I clinched 19,000 votes and on the same ticket another person received 250 votes. This clearly shows the difference, ticket is of no importance but the basic thing is trust, which the people put in me.”
