Power cuts of 14-16 hours in the city and 20 to 22 hours in the rural areas forced the residents of Shahdara, Bund Road and several areas to come out on the roads in protest with the mercury touching 39 degrees on Wednesday.
Load shedding continued to make the life in the city hell with citizens facing multiple problems including lack of water, inability of students to concentrate on their studies and the shutting down of many large and smalls scale businesses.
With the increase in temperature, electricity consumers increased the use of air conditioners which made the power shortfall surge to over 7,500MegaWatts
“What work can be done if the electricity disappears for 3 to 4 hours after every hour?” said Mansha Bhatti, a resident of Lahore Cantonment.
“We have our exams and the federal government has no shame,” said Abid Ali, a student of O Levels.
“Electricity went at the time when the government water comes so we did not have water all day,” said Rukhsana Ahmed, a resident of Shahdara, adding “I hope the rulers are made to go through the torture they are making us go through.”
Lahore Electric Supply Company sources said they were also unaware of the schedule and could not predict the outages while Pakistan Electric Power Company said there was shortage of water in the Tarbela reservoir so the shortfall could not be met, adding that the power plants were not being paid either.
Our officials are more interested in improving ties with India instead of improving our own lot.
