Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (RCTP) issued 52,366 challan tickets with fines amounting to over Rs19 million imposed on traffic rules violators during the month of April.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Superintendent Police (SP) Syed Ishtiaq Shah informed that city traffic police in its efforts for the smooth flow of traffic on city roads impounded 1366 vehicles and motorcycles in various police stations on severe traffic rules violations while a number of drivers were also arrested during the period.
CTO said that action in accordance with the law was taken against 1233 drivers on use of mobile phone while driving. 428 vehicles were challaned for having tinted glasses. 451 drivers were fined for wrong parking.
4800 two-wheelers who were driving without helmet were issued challan slips during the period. 1095 vehicles on violation of route permits, 88 under age drivers, 724 on pressure horns, 374 vehicles without proper light were issued challan tickets while 206 drivers were imposed fines on negligent and dangerous driving, he added.
206 drivers for creating hurdles in smooth flow of traffic, 371 for violating lane/line, 2001 on violation of zebra crossing were issued challan tickets, he said adding, 451 on wrong parking while 1316 vehicles were fined for wrong side driving.
City Traffic Officer informed that special campaigns were also run last month while under a campaign, the citizens are also being educated regarding traffic rules and road safety. Education Wing of Traffic Police is making efforts to spread awareness so that the road journey could be made safe and sound.
The CTO urged the people to cooperate with traffic wardens as they are on the roads to facilitate them. A special squad is available to help and facilitate the citizens on Helpline 1915, he added.
Bid to smuggle drugs foiled: Islamabad police on Wednesday arrested four persons including a woman and recovered 4.783 kilogram hashish and stolen items from their possession, a police spokesman said.
According to details, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Shabbir from Tarnol police arrested Shagufta Perveen from the area of `Jhugi Syedan’ during routine patrolling and recovered 3.768 kilogram hashish from him. Station House Officer Inspector Mehboob Ahmed from Koral police arrested a drug pusher Mehbob Ahmed for having 1.05 kilogram hashish.
Sub-Inspector Muhammad Riaz from Industrial area police arrested an accused Ali for their alleged involvement in purse snatching incidents and recovered snatched cash and purse from him. ASI Muhammad Saeed from Koral police arrested Sahifq ul Rehman for having 30 bore pistol.
Cases have been registered against these nabbed persons and further investigation is underway from them.
Dacoit gangs busted: Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Islamabad Police has busted two gangs of dacoits and arrested a total of 10 accused during last week besides recovering looted items worth hundreds of thousands of rupees, five motorbikes, five CNG kits, electronic equipments and weapons from their possession, a police spokesman said.
According to details, IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan and SSP Islamabad Muhammad Yousuf Malik assigned special task to SP (Investigation) Ch Liaqat Ali and In-Charge CIA Bashir Ahmed Noon to trace referred dacoity cases at earliest. A special team working under supervision of In-Charge CIA succeeded to bust two gangs of dacoits and recovered looted items worth hundreds of thousands of rupees as well as motorbikes from these nabbed gangsters.
The nabbed persons were identified as Naveed s/o Muhammad Aslam, Shafaqat Ali alias Shaku s/o Shaukat, Fiaz Ahmed s/o Muhammad Ashraf residents of Mirabadia Islamabad, Arif s/o Muhammad Sharif resident of Sheikhupura, Nawab Khan alias Nawab resident of Peshawar, Mumrooz Khan s/o Mir Khan resident of E-11 Islamabad, Fazal Gul s/o Reham Gul resident of Golra area Islamabad, Maaz Ullah s/o Fazal Haq resident of Mirabadia Islamabad, Iftikhar alias Khuram resident of Attock, Asif s/o Hafiz Arfaq resident of Bari Imam area Islamabad.
These gangsters have confessed to ransack houses and general stores at gun point in sector G-1/4, F-11/3, G-9/3, G-6/1-4, Gulberg town Islamabad, Alipur Firash, Mirabaida and also snatching five motorbikes from various areas of city. Further investigation is underway from them and CIA police is hopeful for more recovery from them.
