Total 2,172 cases were registered in various police stations of Islamabad during this year and challans of 1,273 cases were submitted in courts after completing investigation on these cases, a police source said.
He said targets had been set for each division of Islamabad police and their performance was being reviewed from time to time regarding achievements of the goals by the bosses of Islamabad police.
According to the data provided by the source, police remained successful in controlling the auto-theft incidents. Around 35 per cent declined was witnessed in auto-theft incidents while 57 stolen and five snatched vehicles including 19 Corolla cars, 17 Suzuki Mehran cars, 8 FX, 11 Honda cars, four pick ups, one Khyber car, one jeep and one Hiace were recovered by Islamabad in this year.
Similarly, the recovery of arms and narcotics is also higher in these months due to successful vigilance and security plan.
A total of 163 kilogram hashish, nine kilogram heroin, 6 kilogram opium and over 20097 wine bottles were also recovered from several nabbed drug pushers. During the same period, hundreds of accused were arrested for their alleged involvement in possessing illegal weapons and a total of 16 Kalashnikov, 17 guns, 343 pistols, 2970 rounds were recovered from them.
From January to April, a total of 53 gamblers, 263 court absconders, 135 proclaimed offenders were also arrested while 76 tempered vehicles were also recovered by Islamabad police.
He said that commitment and devotion by the personnel of Islamabad police despite several constraints, made them successful against the criminal elements this year and decline in crime rate was witnessed.
A decline was also witnessed in the cases of dacoities, burglaries, theft, vehicles’ lifting and snatching. Comparison of data of crime rate in the months from January to April this year revealed that dacoity, auto-theft cases and burglary cases in the city declined during these months as compared to the corresponding period of the last year.
A comprehensive security and vigilance plan was also chalked out on the directions of IGP and SSP Islamabad after consultation of all stake holders.
Various rings of security were set up with provision of more logistic support for policemen performing duties at police stations or Rescue 15 in shape of various teams. The source attributed these steps as the main factors behind success in decline of crime rate.
