Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan has criticised Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar’s statement on NATO supplies and said the minister was proving himself more loyal than the king.
Ahmed Mukhtar had stated at a press conference on Sunday that the ban on NATO supplies was against international law and could invite sanctions.
Syed Munawar Hasan retaliated in a statement on Monday that said the NATO supplies had been stopped under a Parliament resolution, in protest against the NATO attack on the Silala check post causing the martyrdom of twenty four soldiers.
Pakistan, he said, had already offered to open the supplies on the condition that the US tendered an apology for the Silala attack but Washington had turned down the request. The JI ameer said the sovereignty of the country and the nation was supreme. Pakistan was a sovereign country and no independent state could allow its enemy to transport arms and ammunition through its land.
He remarked that the Defence minister should also have told the nation about the international laws being violated by drone attacks.
He said Ahmed Mukhtar was more worried about the ban on NATO supplies than the Americans and was also trying to make the nation fearful of sanctions.
Such a cowardly man should not be the Defence minister, he added, saying that if the rulers gave up US slavery and demonstrated national honour, the nation would stand by them in every difficulty.
