In light of reported decrease in the prices of Petrol, Oil & Lubricants (POL) in the international market, the Karachi Transport Action Committee (KTAC) has urged the government to reduce POL prices to provide relief to the common man and the transporters.
In a statement issued on Sunday, KTAC President Muhammad Ashraf Banglori and members Chaudhry Mazhar Hussain, Lala Sultan and Nazir Banglori maintained that there was a good space to cut down POL prices.
A reasonable decrease in petroleum prices would benefit the people in many ways, besides making it easy for the transporters to operate, they said.
They also said that sensing high inflationary pressure and unemployment or underemployment the people are confronted with, the transporters had not increased their fares, despite significant increase in POL prices for past couple of years. They said that they did want to put more burdens over the general public by increasing their fares.
However, they added, it has become very difficult for them to continue and would be forced to revise their fares.
