Punjab Zakat and Ushr Secretary Imran Nasir Khan said the Zakat and Ushr Department has received Rs 2.2754 billion from the Reserved Central Zakat Funds.
He stated this while presiding over the 138th meeting of the Punjab Provincial Zakat Council as the council’s chairman at its office on Thursday.
Punjab Zakat Administrator Rana Muhammad Sajjad Babar, representatives of the Social Welfare and Finance departments and local government, Zakat Council members Sakina Shaheen Khan, Maulana Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Abdul Qayyum and other officers were present in the meeting.
The meeting approved the release of funds under the head of educational scholarships for deeni madaris for the year 2011-12. Among the beneficiaries, Rs 1.53 million will be given to the Bhakkar district, Rs 3.37 million for Sheikhupura, Rs 4.588M for Rahim Yar Khan, Rs 3.47M for Kasur, Rs 3.89M for Sargodha and Rs 1.21M for Nankana Sahib.
Funds will also be released to several districts under the head of general educational scholarships for 2011-12. Among these, Rs 1.88M will be given to Jhang, Rs 7.5M to Attock, Rs 11.27M to Sialkot, Rs 0.32M to Nankana Sahib and Rs 0.68M to the Jhelum district.
The meeting also accorded the approval of the names of the Lodhran District Zakat Committee members.
Earlier, the council members also endorsed the decisions taken by the Provincial Zakat Council in its meeting.
