KARACHI – The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has announced holding a large public gathering at the Lal Qila Ground in Azizabad on January 30 to be attended by people from all ethnic and cultural entities. On the occasion, party chief Altaf Hussain would address everyone by telephone from London.
Members of MQM’s Coordination Committee Yousuf Shahwani, Ashfaq Mangi and Gulfaraz Khan Khattak on Thursday said in a press conference held at the Khursheed Begum Memorial Hall that the meeting was being organised to dispel the perception that MQM was a political party for only Urdu-speaking people.
Shahwani said that the success of the public gathering would demonstrate that MQM is a political party that stands for all the oppressed and deprived people of Pakistan irrespective of their language or culture.
He said that MQM has office-bearers from all ethnicities, and that the party had also nominated people other than Urdu-speakers in the general elections.
The party has organisational structures in Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir with sizeable number of workers throughout the country.
The huge turnout at the Bhit Shah meeting has amply demonstrated that the MQM is supported from all the people of Pakistan.
