Mazhar to appeal conviction over fixing scam

Former Croydon Athletic owner Mazhar Majeed is to appeal against his conviction over the betting scandal that rocked cricket. Sports agent Majeed was jailed for two years and eight months for his involvement in a plot to fix certain aspects of the England versus Pakistan Test match at Lords in the summer of 2010. Mazhar Majeed, jailed for his part in the spot fixing scam that rocked international cricket, is to appeal his conviction. The scam saw Pakistan players asked to bowl deliberate no-balls for cash. Majeed was convicted of conspiracy to cheat and conspiracy to accept corrupt payments and was jailed in November. His case is set to be heard at the Court of Appeal in London on May 24. Two top Pakistani cricketers, former captain Salman Butt and bowler Mohammed Asif, were also imprisoned after being found guilty of taking part in a plot to bowl three deliberate no-balls during the Test against England. Another bowler, Mohammad Amir, admitted the charges prior to the trial.
