‘Distribution of WB’s Rs 27bn as per NFC’

Federal minister and Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Javed Leghari called on Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House on Saturday. The chief minister said that after the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, the devolution of federal ministries to provincial departments and the decision of the meeting of the Council of Common Interests, the administrative control of universities has been transferred to provincial governments. The HEC chairman informed the chief minister that under the United States Agency for International Development programme, an amount of $127 million (Rs 11.56 billion) has been granted for the energy, water and agriculture sectors. He said that the task of the water centre project would be assigned to Jamshoro’s Mehran University of Engineering and Technology. He apprised the chief minister that the World Bank has provided an amount of $300 million (Rs 27.3 billion), which would be distributed and allocated according to the NFC formula. Also under the NFC, funds are being provided for the HEC scholarship programme for students as well, he added. He also informed the chief minister about the issues of the University of Sindh and the educational institutions of Shaheed Benazirabad.
