City govt launches cleanliness campaign

On the direction of the opposition leader in the National assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the city district government has launched cleanliness campaign to make the city pollution-free.
Solid Waste Management District Officer Dr Mazhar Azeem said that a comprehensive cleanliness drive was underway in 46 union councils of Rawalpindi city and eight union councils of Potohar Town while political leaders of the area have appealed to people not to throw garbage into the streets and cooperate with sanitation staff during the cleanliness drive. “All-out efforts are being made to make Rawalpindi a model city and people from different walks of lives must participate in the efforts to preserve the beauty of the city,” Dr Mazhar Azeem said.
Citizens protest against high prices in Sabzi Mandi : Because of the negligence of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), shopkeepers and vendors in Sabzi Mandi I-10 are fleecing customers by selling their commodities, including fruit and vegetables, at high prices without displaying rate lists.
The citizens lodged several complaints against overcharging, substandard vegetables, while the authorities concerned failed to take any measure against these adulterators and profiteers.
The citizens demanded stern action against the corrupt officials of the CDA, who were backing profiteers. While complaining against the vendors, the citizens appealed to the CDA high-ups to take stern action against all those involved in adulteration.
