Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Friday that nobody but the Parliament could remove him from his office, adding that only the Speaker of the House could disqualify him as the Prime Minister.
Addressing the National Assembly on Friday, Gilani said he wanted to take the Parliament into confidence on the Supreme Court’s verdict against him in the contempt of court case.
The Parliament is the country’s supreme institution, he said, adding his only crime is to protect the Constitution.
He said if the parliament disqualifies him he will accept its decision.
Prime Minister Gilani said the federal law minister and his counsel have clarified various controversies created on the apex court’s verdict. He said, “we did not accept the steps taken by the dictators in the past and worked for democracy.”
Gilani assured that he would never support derailment of democracy, even when he is not in power. He said that his party worked with the PML-N and did not support derailment of democracy. It signed the Charter of Democracy with PML-N, he said.
He also said that with the departure of Nawaz Sharif from the country the democracy suffered‚ but we continued efforts to protect democracy.
He informed the assembly that developmental funds have been distributed among all parties without any discrimination.
Lamenting opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali’s remarks in the House, he said he was the elected prime minister.
“One brother doesn’t accept the President; other brother doesn’t accept the Prime Minsiter while the whole PML-N doesn’t accept Imran Khan,” he mocked.
Gilani also challenged the opposition party to bring a no-trust motion.
Referring to by election in Multan‚ which a PPP candidate won‚ he said public still supports his part.
Addressing the issue of immunity, the prime minister said all heads of states enjoy immunity across the world under the Vienna Convention.

    • Aahaah. Here is an over/under situation where total is 101%. That needs explanation…

But upon investigation we found that the extra 1% (loot, I guess) actually leaves Pakistan very promptly (to London, Dubai or other western destination). So, there is no reason for you to worry…

      JEY (just entertaining you):

  1. The selection of words & intensity of the readers' comment reflect the degree of disliking & hatred which the majority of people have developed for the present government. PM & his cotaries have broken all records of shamelessness.

Some Arab Spring seems to be on the way, some big change is on the cards, The Big Tsunami will sweep all these corrupt souls away.

  2. Prime minister Gilani—–Why don't you call an urgent vote of confidence from the parliament and poke a finger at the judiciary . It will show again contempt for any one who dares to challenge you. You are the BOSS and the chosen one. You will set a shiny example for the country. It reminds of late Preident NIxon's quote " i am not a crook"

  3. These are the kind of people who disillusion all with their shameless stance, unscruplous approach & meaness. These are the kind of people who provide opportunity to the dictators to sneak into power corridors, these are the people who undermine institutions. Once again, the fundamental reservation about the permissible tenor of 5 years for any elected govt is echoing in the minds. The term should be reduced susbstantially i.e., to three or max four years allowing the people to exercise accountability & shoe these people out of power if they stubbornly strive to pursue their personal interests against the interests of the nation and the country.

The SC has displayed too much leniency in extending a symbolic punishment for a real crime. These corrupt people need harsher punishments.

  4. All of us have a right to have our opinion and express it. Sometimes, the way we express it shows our moral standard. Going by the language of critical comments above, one can understand the moral level of PPP critics. Moreover, yesterday's bye-election result of PP-194 (which was considered to be a bastion of anti-PPP sentiments) should be an eye-opener. People of Pakistan does not include only the TV anchors and so-called self-proclaimed analysts. Time and again they tell us nobody likes PPP and people are fed up with the present government. But whenever elections are held, they are proved totally wrong. It is a shame that none of the experts predicting doomsday scenario have the moral courage to admit their wrong analyses.

  5. Ab to dua hai kay Allah he aap ko apnay pas bola laiye……….baqi koi sort nazar nahi aati

  6. Hey Gilani Saheb you desire this Democracy.you are right only Parliament can do something agaisnt you IMPOSSIBLE IMPOSSIBLE …..IMPOSSIBLE the so-called President is of ppp,the convicted pm is of ppp.the speaker of national assembly is of ppp, most of ministers are of ppp, moreover the opposition is of freindly nature and lots of extremists are of ppp, then no need to worry.but Remember Allah Taala is not with you as Allah does not like Devil.

  7. Here the question is where the judiciary and its decisions stand? does it not belong to the people of this country ? is it not the same judiciary, the whole nation stood for and took to the streets for its restoration? and by the way what is meant by law? is it just for the poor people who are spending years for petty crimes behind the bars and these so called immune to law people have no respect for law or judiciary? what is the definition of anarchy by the way ? where apex court's decisions are being ignored by the bunch of stubborn illiterates who ridicule the judiciary and its people.
They call it judicial activism BUT this what this nation needs the supermacy of Law… not the parliament.

  8. Gillani is the most hated person in Pakistan today. His daughter, on the other hand, is the most loved by diplomats :). His wife is probably most loved by zardari 🙂 And his sons will be most loved by pathan prisoners 🙂

  9. God is diplaying ire with our nation by imposing people like you and others to rule us. May Allah have mercy on us.

  10. The comments against PPP, PM and President are absurd, irrational and abusive. Come with some logic. Stop attitude of hate. Learn tolerance. Shame on your language.

  11. Unbelievable is the word!!! The man should have stepped down if not before, atleast at the time when he was summoned to the court for the contempt case. Such an action would degrade his party completely. There was a "sentence" for his contempt of court, but whats the sentence for contempt of democracy??

  12. The short sighted judges have once again played into opposition's hands. By becoming a cat's paw in the hands of Sharifs' and their paid goons in the media they have driven an other nail in the coffin of this country.

The chaos is sure to follow as a result of this extremely biased verdict. In the coming days we might see an upheaval in the country, which will seriously undermine country's foundation.

From day one Justice Iftikhar & Co were chasing PPP's elected govt. down on one pretext or the other. The which hunt had begun right after the restoration. Hearing of only cases, one after the other, which implicate only to PPP's leadership and completely irrelevance of the ones related to Sharif's clearly prove that these judges have had developed anti-PPP mindset and were no longer impartial. They were poisonously biased. Criminally partial. And had hatred against leadership of PPP leadership.

After this unfair verdict the people party's leadership must know well that this Pakistan is not for it. No matter how deep it has roots in the masses; its not acceptable to pro Punjab establishment, to pro Punjab judiciary and also to the media largely dominated by Punjab's journalists or ones who are paid heavily by the Lahore Kings.

Over past three decades People's party and its leadership has suffered a lot. Both have given unprecedented sacrifices solely and purely to ensure integrity of Pakistan. But all, always, have ended in smoke.

Now time has come when its leadership must seriously think what course it has to take. Wheather it should continue to become "punching bag". Or it must stand up for equal rights.

I think it must stand up. For enough is enough.

  13. Mr. Prime Minister,

I have a simple question. Are you going to write THE LETTER or not?

  14. I see a lot of people here trying to make it a race issue. Corruption knows no provincial, national, religeous or racial boundries. The issue is corruption and mockery of the law. It does not matter who it is or where he/she is from. People are trying to draw party line stance on this issue. Its not about personalities or parties. Its about right and wrong. Unfortunately, people who have no defense for the corruption of their party leaders, are trying to make it a race and party issue. I propose that people with an IQ of less than 100 should not be allowed to post comments here. Oh. Wait. That would disqualify all the followers of…………
