A head constable posted at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was killed and four others suffered serious bullet injuries on Thursday when unidentified masked attackers opened fire at the law enforcement personnel in Lyari.
Baghdadi SHO said that the unidentified assailants sprayed the vehicle carrying the CID team with bullets.
Head constable Altaf of the CID’s Anti-Extremist Cell was shot dead while four others suffered injuries.
The victims were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi and later shifted to the Aga Khan University Hospital for security reasons. City Town SP Nasir told Pakistan Today that the CID team was on way for an operation in Lyari when it was targeted by masked men in the jurisdiction of Baghdadi police station.
“The attack was carried by the criminals affiliated with the Lyari gang war,” he said. “Informers had tipped the criminals about the CID operation in Lyari prior to the arrival of law enforcers.” A case (FIR No 120/12) under sections 302/34 and 324 of the PPC and 7-8T/ATC, 3/5 ATC have been lodged against Uzair Baloch, Habib Jan, Zafar Baloch, Wasiullah, Sheraz Comrade, Baba Ladla, Taj alias Taju, Umar Katchi, Jabbar alias Jango.
