Aitzaz Ahsan, the lawyer for Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in the contempt case, on Tuesday said the Supreme Court should not insist on writing a letter to Swiss authorities for reopening graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. Talking to reporters at the Supreme Court, he said the court should also absolve the prime minister from the contempt charge leveled against him. To queries, he said: “I will inform the PM about the court’s April 24 orders that he (PM) should ensure his presence before the court on April 26 and he, God willing, would come to the court,” Aitzaz said. He said he was hopeful that the judges would acquit his client, adding that the court should not insist on writing to Swiss authorities as that would undermine the federation. Aitzaz said the president symbolized the federation and was also the armed forces’ supreme commander.
“This is why, while Asif Ali Zardari is the president, the court should not insist on writing the letter and absolve the prime minister from the contempt charge leveled against him,” Aitzaz said. He said Attorney General Irfan Qadir, who is also the prosecutor in the contempt case, had agreed that according to the current record, no contempt of court case could be made out against Gilani.

  1. Why does aitzaz think that zardari has immunity while Musharraf did not? He argued vehemently that Musharraf did not have immunity as president. What changed his mind? aitzaz may have made a few billion but, morally, he is bankrupt.

  2. This open letter will help other junior students to understand in detail all those possible details and values which one must needed to occupy and understand by the time and meaning.
