The Sindh High Court (SHC) postponed the proceedings seeking registration of a murder case against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain among other party leaders.
Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) Chairman Afaq Ahmed had filed a constitutional petition submitting that on June 10, 1997, some armed men attacked Baitul Hamza, the Haqiqi headquarters, in which two party activists named Shahid Hussain and Navid Faiz were killed and the petitioner survived.
Ahmed submitted that a notorious target killer Shahnawaz alias Ajmal Pahari, allegedly affiliated with the MQM and in the custody of law enforcement agencies, in his statement before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had admitted carrying out the attack along with his accomplices on the orders of his party leadership.
The Haqiqi chief prayed that the court direct police authorities to lodge a complaint against Hussain and other party leaders.
After hearing the preliminary arguments, the SHC division bench headed by Justice Maqbool Baqar adjourned the hearing. The next date will be fixed later by the court office.
