Curfew in Gilgit relaxed for 8 hours, situation remains calm

As law and order situation showed some improvement in Gilgit, curfew in the violence-hit city was relaxed for eight hours on Monday, the 14th day of its imposition, while the ban imposed on wearing jackets and shawls and the assembly of two or more persons remained in place.
According to details relaxation in curfew commenced from 7:00am to 3:00pm during which government offices and educational institutions were opened. There were no reports of any untoward incident during the curfew break.
Following relaxation in the curfew, people took a sigh of relief, came out of their homes in big numbers and got daily use items and foodstuff.
Security remained tight all over the city with the army still manning dozens of security pickets and police conducting body searches of suspected residents. Cell phone services also remained suspended.
Meanwhile, security forces continued search operations in various residential areas of the city and arrested dozens of suspects.
The citizens have demanded the government to take effective action against those involved in target killings and terrorism.
