Aqeel Khan, seed no 1 and Jalil Khan, seed 3 won their semi-finals in straight sets here at K-21 Model Town sports Club on Saturday. The semifinal matches were scheduled to play on grass court as per previous routine but yesterday night’s rain did enough damage to grass courts and matches had to be shifted to hard courts. The first semifinal played between Aqeel Khan and Mohammad Abid. In the first set, Abid started the match with confidence and kept on holding his service games. Although, Aqeel got break points at couple of occasions but could not convert the chances in his favor. Similarly, Aqeel held his service games with ease and led the first set 5-4. In 10th game Abid lost consecutively two points with one double fault giving great opportunity to Aqeel to win first set. Aqeel had 3 set points at this stage. Unexpectedly, Aqeel made unforced errors and missed backhand shots followed by to hit a volley in the net. It was looking that Abid will now hold his service game but experienced Aqeel did not give further chance to his opponent by hitting some glorious forehand down the line winners and won first set 6-4. In the second set Abid started to avail some chances on net which did not worked as he thought and missed the points especially in trying to execute some drop shots not even realizing unsuitable surface for such kind of shots . Abid could not hold his service games and started loosing the points sticking to a wrong plan . Aqeel Khan successfully held his service games and not let his opponent to show off much and won the 2nd set and match 6-4,6-3. In 2nd semifinal yasir Khan fought well against jalil Khan and stretched 1st set as much as in tie break . jalil won the first 7-6(4) . In 2nd set jalil managed to break yasir’s service games and swept the 2nd set 6-3. In Men’s doubles final match young Heera Ashiq and Khuram Nazir could not do much against heavy guns of Aqeel Khan and lost the final match in straight sets with score line 6-4,6-2. In Boys singles Under 18 category , Mohammad Mudasir beat Ahmed Babar in final with score line 6-4,6-3. Against all expectations , Ahmed Babar who was a strong candidate could not resist in front of tremendous fitness of M.Mudasir. as result , most of the long rallies ended-up in favor of Mudassir. In school/College team event’s final match , Govt College,Lahore beat Garrison Academy 2 matches to Nil In this encounter Shah Naseeb of GC beat Shayan Tariq of Garrison 6-2,6-4 and Imad Amir of GC beat Adnan Amir of garrison 6-3,7-5 . Doubles match of this category was not played as tie was dead as Govt College won both the single matches . In Boys singles U-14 category two semifinal matches were played in which Syed Nofil Kaleem beat Shoib Khan 6-0,6-1 and in 2nd Semifinal match Abdal Haider beat M.Muzamil 6-4,4-6,6-4. These two players will now play the final match tomorrow at 10am. In Boys Singles U-12 event semifinals were played haris Irfan beat hamza Bin Rehan 6-2,6-0 while hafiz Arbab beat huzaifa 6-3,6-4, 6-2. In Under 10 boys singles Abdullah Hamid beat Yousaf 4-2,4-2(short format). In Veteran Doubles over 60 category Asad Niaz and Khalid Ikram beat Dr M.Akram and dawood bari6-3,6-4, Iftikhar Ahmed and Khalid Choudhry beat Mian Munir and Tahir Zaidi 6-2,6-3 Col Najam and Fayyaz Choudhry beat Masood Anwar and Asghar watoo 6-1,7-5.
