Four killed as violence rules in Karachi

At least four people were killed in several shooting incidents in Lyari and other areas of the port city on Friday morning, police said. The victims included a private school’s principal and a woman.
On Friday morning, Lyari plunged into tension again with sustained intense firing in various areas, including Chakiwara and Lee Market. Some people also hurled hand grenades at the police.
In other incidents, a man, Hayat Gul, was gunned down overnight in Miran Naka. His body was brought to the Civil Hospital. Meanwhile, Aqeel, son of Samad, was killed in a firing incident in Korangi’s Sector-51C and another man Majidur Rehman was injured. Both the deceased and the injured were rushed to Jinnah Hospital.
Separately, some unidentified armed miscreants stormed into a private school located in Baldia Town in the limits of Saeedabad Police Station, and shot dead the school principal, Iftikhar Ahmed. The assassins fled from the scene immediately.
In another incident, unidentified miscreants escaped after leaving behind the body of a 35-year woman at Usman Memorial Hospital in Azizabad. The hospital management informed police about the body. The deceased woman had received two gunshots. The victim could not be identified until the filing of this story. Police said it had started investigating the incidents.

  1. It is appalling that the Government and the concerned authorities are doing nothing to stop these acts of violence in Karachi. The law enforcement agencies must take stern action against the perpetrators of these heinous acts of violence and killings.
