Punjab University Examination Department has nabbed superintendent of an examination centre and a BSc candidate red-handed who was taking her paper in her house illegally. This can be termed a success of Punjab University’s examination system under the dynamic leadership of Controller Examinations, Prof Dr Liaqat Ali. Shanzay Sadiq, resident of DHA Lahore, a private candidate with roll number of 75213 and was allocated Centre number 54 of Punjab University’s Examination Centre at Wahdat Road, was doing all this with the help of Alia Anwar, superintendent of Centre No 56 and Assistant Professor of Government College Wapda Town. The modus operandi of the two was that the candidate was being given the answer book one day before the examination and she was receiving the question paper on the day of the paper from the superintendent at 8:15 am outside the bank. The candidate used to write on the already given answer book at her home and used to submit the solved answer book at 12 noon and the superintendent used to mark her attendance on blank boxes which she was already maintaining. According to details, Dr Liaqat formed a committee when he found some misappropriation in the attendance sheet of English Paper A of Examination Centre No 56. The committee strictly watched and carried out a hardcore investigation of the candidate and the superintendent for 8 days to dig out all the facts. Today at 8:15am, the superintendent, after getting a packet of sealed question papers from a branch of a bank, got into a car bearing registration number LEB-09-9338 while others were a male driver and the candidate inside. The superintendent was later dropped at the examination centre while the candidate was seen reading the question paper when the car turned. The driver and the candidate then reached R Block of Punjab Co-operative Society, near Johar Town, and entered into a house. Later, the driver took the car to a house situated at U block of Defense Housing Authority. On the other side, the suspected examination staff of the centre was also being watched by a special team. Team A, posing as people doing a routine check, entered into the examination centre and found two lines blank in the attendance sheet. After that, the team waited for the closing time and packing of answer books. And at that time, the team entered and checked the bundle of the answer books and found that there was an attendance of 12 candidates but there were 13 answer books in the sealed bundle which included the answer book of Shanzay Sadiq which reached the centre at 12 noon. The superintendent confessed to her crime and submitted in writing that she was managing the whole episode. Dr Liaqat said that the superintendent had been blacklisted while an Unfair Means Case had been registered against the candidate. He said that a letter would also be written to Education Department to take departmental action against the assistant professor. He congratulated the investigation team which unearthed the whole incident after great hard work.
They have been caught because the concerned staff were not bribed.
