Pakistan Day celebrated

The Pakistan Day was celebrated with zeal and zest at Govt Post Graduate College for Women, Satellite Town.
It was organized by Ideology of Pakistan Society headed by Robina Siddique Lecturer in History and Mussarat Riaz Lecturer in Education. The stage was beautifully and thematically set enhanced by the presentation of images on multimedia. The enthusiasm of the organizers was duly shared by the students. Iffat Liaqat Ali an eminent social worker and MPA from Chakwal was the chief guest on this occasion.
The function started with the beautiful recitation of holy Qurranic verses by Asia Asad from Islamiat Department followed by Naat presented by Saira Kanwal from B.S English.Then the national anthem was played and the whole congregation joined in. A documentary on the Independence Movement was presented on multimedia. A student from B.S English Studies gave a thought provoking presentation about the feelings and attitude of Pakistani people in the past, present and what they want in future.
It was followed by another presentation about how Allama Iqbal addresses the issues of the present day Pakistan and the Islamic World. Folk songs of different parts of Pakistan were presented in the traditional Pakistani dresses adding colour to the function. Messages of the eminent figures of the Independence Movement were brought to the audience for laud reading to impart the message and inculcate the spirit needed to overcome the present impasse. A dramatic presentation of the popular national song, “A jawan, a jawan jeet hay teeri pahchan” was presented.
A card making competition was held on the theme of Pakistan, Nasreen Tariq from Fine Arts and Ms Nussrat Ishtiaq from Pakistan Studies acted as judges. According to the decision of the judges first prize was won by Aniqa Abdul Ghafoor from English Studies, while second, third and consolation prizes were respectively won by Hifza, Noor-ul-Ann and Saddaf Khalid from Fine Arts Department. The chief guest, accompanied by the principal Professor Riffat Naheed gave away the prizes, then a shield was presented to the chief guest.
In her address the chief guest thanked the organizers and appreciated the students efforts. She talked about the measures the Govt. of the Punjab which have been taken to facilitate the female lot especially like 33 percent additional quota in jobs, establishment of day care centres and three years additional age relaxation. The principal offered a word of thanks to the chief guest and the function was concluded with the singing of the prayer, Jeway Pakistan.
