ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Punjab government to present a complete report over compensations given to the victims of police and lawyers’ clash that took place at Aiwan-e-Adl Lahore last year.
A three-member bench, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, was hearing a suo motu case of alleged police torture of lawyers.
Punjab Advocate General Khawaja Haris told the court that both the parties (police and lawyers) have withdrawn cases against each other after reaching a compromise and Rs 3 million were paid to the lawyers affected by the clash. The chief justice said that there were complaints that the compensation amount was not paid to the real victims. The court also directed that the police officials injured during the clash should be compensated and adjourned further hearing till January 28.
