The Sindh government has decided to revamp the educational system of the province and bring it at par with that of Punjab to contain rampant corruption and improve the quality of education.
This was disclosed by Education Secretary Siddique Memon at the Sindh Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting on Thursday.
Speaking about the efforts being made by his department, the secretary said that the move is aimed at improving the system of education to contain massive irregularities by the Sindh Education Department officials and improve the overall standard of education in the province.
“In Punjab, the quality of education is much better and the province stands at the first position [in terms of educational benchmark], followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh and Balochistan having the worst standard of education,” Memon claimed.
The education department has forwarded a summary to the Sindh chief minister to allow the division of the current department in three parts i.e. school education, college education and higher education,” he said, adding that the department’s separation would lower the burden on officials besides improving the quality of education.
“The senior officials of the department do not even bother to write a show-cause notice while the supervisors are also not properly performing their professional duties,” he remarked.
The education secretary was of the view that teachers are “bound to perform additional duties” like in polio campaigns, census and elections. “We are also trying to consolidate a number of schools in the province,” he added.
