LAHORE – An accountability court judge, Ahmad Nawaz Ranjha, on Monday severely beat up a peon in his chamber for going on a day’s leave without prior permission. The peon, Habibur Rehman, is a naib qasid in another accountability court. The judge slapped and tried to strangle Rehman with his scarf, and banned Rehman’s entry in the premises of the accountability court. Per details, Rehman, who works in Accountability Court No 4, took a day’s leave on Saturday without permission from authorities. Sources said Ranjha called the peon in his chamber on Monday and sought an explanation. When Rehman failed to justify his act, the judge started slapping him and tried to strangle him. After the incident, Ranjha got an apology typed on behalf of Rehman on account of contempt of court and tried getting it signed by the peon. However, Rehman left the court premises without signing the apology statement and went to the Lahore High Court to inform the chief justice about the incident. After failing to convince Rehman to return to his court, the judge directed security in charge Sub-Inspector Muhammad Rafique not to allow Rehman in the court premises.
