ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Monday gave another deadline to Techno Energy, a Sialkot-based firm, to refund a mobilisation advance of Rs 780 million with a mark up of Rs 300 million by today (Tuesday) for its failure to import machinery for a 150MW rental power project despite keeping the amount with it for over two years.
A three-member bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday was hearing a suo motu case involving allegations of corruption in the contract of rental power projects (RPPs).
Appearing on notice, Techno Energy’s lawyer Raja Anwarul Haq presented a cheque of Rs 1,080 million before the court. The chief justice, however, ordered him to submit a pay order of the amount instead of the cheque.
The counsel told the court that it will take time to transfer the money in Genco’s (main company) account. The court then directed him to positively submit a pay order by today (Tuesday).
The lawyer assured the court that transfer of the amount in the national exchequer will be completed by the specified time. The court was informed that Rs 18 billion were given to nine rental power companies, of which four RPPs had returned Rs 4 billion. On Friday, the court had given a second deadline to Techno Energy to refund the mobilisation advance of Rs 780 million along with the mark-up by January 17.
