Shah Qubilai Alam with his superlative performance steered Guard Group/Quick Link to take the Faysal Bank Polo Tournament 2012 title here at the LPO’s Aibak Ground on Sunday.
Playing in front of a large number of holiday fans and chief guest Syed Kazim Raza, Branch Banking Head, Faysal Bank, Qublai hit five goals out of the nine of Guard Group-Quick Link as against Newage’s six, who also have one and a half goal advantage. Qubilai not only scored his share of goals but also developed moves that helped Raja Samiullah and Umair Shah score goals. Samiullah hit in three goals while Umair got one while their fourth partner Taimur Ali Malik though did not score a goal but he too like Qublai made goal scoring moves.
From the losing side, Qublai’s younger brother Shah Shamyl Alam provided maximum possible resistance by hitting in four goals while one each came from Taimur Mawaz Khan and Abdul Rehman Monnoo. But their efforts were no match to the Qublai-led Guar Group team.
In the subsidiary final, Colony Sugar after winning three back to back title went down to Pessi 3-5. Atif Yar Tiwana, Ahmed Ali Tiwana and Sher Alam Mahsud shared the Pessi’s winning stride while Saqib Khan Khakwani and Ahmed Khan fougt from Colony Sugar.
