The Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) will hold its 49th Annual Medical Symposium from April 1 to 5, Prof Jamal Ara, chairperson of the Academic Council and Symposium Organising Committee of the hospital, said in a statement issued on Monday.
The symposium is being organised with the theme “Every Life Counts”, which implies that no person can ever experience all that life has to offer.
Further elaborating the choice for the theme, Ara said it is only through sharing experiences, feelings and insights that we can hope to grow beyond our finite lifetime.
“The idea is to invigorate all stakeholders and make them think if they are ready to grow today,” she said.
Ara said the JPMC is the pioneer medical institute of the country that has been organising its annual medical symposium since 1963.
“It is our endeavour to continue the academic and research activity and keep the torch alight and kick off the forthcoming moot by holding a plenary session after the inauguration,” she added.
The symposium is going to be addressed by accomplished teachers of the country.
The pre-symposium workshops on various subjects are going to be followed by a specialty symposium. The sessions will also include talks by eminent professionals in their field from the whole country.
Along with the free paper sessions, there will also be poster presentations. The best papers will be chosen by a jury and the authors suitably honoured.
The subjects discussed will also be complimented by research work undertaken by local doctors on various topics including general medicine, gastroenterology, hematology, chest medicine, endocrine and rheumatology, ophthalmology, cardiology, dermatology, neuromedicine, dental surgery – facio-maxillarymental health, neurosurgery, paeds medicine, radiology (ultrasound, CT/MR, isotope), nephro and urology, oncology, anesthesiology, gynecology and obstetrics.
The scientific sessions will cover issues related to basic medical science and will focus on anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, histopathology, microbiology and clinical pathology.
A special session has been arranged to discuss training and educational needs of nurses and paramedics.
Keeping in view the growing relevance of public needs, a special programme has been chalked out to discuss issues trauma, reconstruction and microsurgery.
A seminar on disaster management will also be part of the five day programme.
