French Ambassador Philippe Thiebaud inaugurated a week of ‘French Speaking World’ at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on Monday. Speaking at the occasion, the ambassador said: “NUML has expanded its operations beyond language teaching and is rendering remarkable services.” He expressed his satisfaction at the teaching techniques being employed by the French department faculty in language teaching. He added that the French embassy and government appreciated NUML’s contributions to training French teachers, providing a platform for learning the French language and arranging cultural exchanges between the two countries. He said the French government was familiar with the constraints faced by NUML but would provide all possible assistance to facilitate its partner. The ambassador also supported the idea of setting up language learning infrastructure in NUML’s campuses countywide, saying that the French Embassy was working in this regard. He also awarded a scholarship from the French government to Arifa Sultana, a student from Gilgit. He said more scholarships would continue to be given to Pakistani students for close cultural and academic cooperation.
