US Consul General William Martin and USAID Specialist Dr Marilyn Wyatt, wife of US Ambassador Cameron Munter, hosted women entrepreneurs on Saturday for a roundtable discussion over tea, at the consul general’s residence. The event was held in recognition of Women’s History Month, and followed closely after the Women: Freedom and Equality event the Consulate organized on International Women’s Day on March 8. Speaking on the occasion, Martin appreciated the work of the “accomplished and aspiring women entrepreneurs,” and stated, “Despite the myriad of challenges facing the business community, I am constantly struck by the vibrancy of entrepreneurs, and particularly women entrepreneurs, in Karachi. Across an array of industries, I hear success stories that prove that a good idea can rise above all obstacles.” The participants, who work in a variety of fields, from education to fashion and retail, were eager to speak with the consul general and found the gathering a good opportunity to network, exchange ideas about how to support young women aspiring to be entrepreneurs, and discuss ways to strengthen economic ties between Pakistan and the United States.
