The Minorities Wing of the Pakistan People’s Party has felicitated President Asif Zardari for making history by consecutively addressing the fifth session of parliament on Saturday, but said that they were expecting that the president would announce dual voting rights for the minority communities of Pakistan in his historic address.
In a press statement, minorities leader Napolean Qayyum said that although the party leadership had taken their suggestions on the dual voting rights for minorities, the decision had not been implemented so far.
He said the PPP workers would make efforts for dual voting system for minorities under which minority constituencies will be carved out to enable them to elect their own representatives directly, besides using their votes on general seats.
Qayyum said that the former chairperson of the party, late Benazir Bhutto, had promised the minorities of a dual voting system in 1995 and the party workers were looking forward to seeing that promise being fulfilled by the current leadership.
