The Sindh police has decided to appoint women police officers as station house officers (SHOs) and Traffic section officers (SOs) for providing them with an equal opportunity to display their abilities without any gender discrimination, said Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmed Shah on Thursday while addressing women police officers at a training module having components of counter terrorism, human rights issues and car/motorcycle driving.
The IGP constituted a committee under the Karachi deputy IGP (DIGP) to recommend names of women police officers as SHOs and Traffic SOs, to make arrangements for car/motorcycle driving training, and to provide solutions to women police officers’ basic issues so they could carry out their duties more efficiently.
He said a summary has been drafted for the Sindh government to raise the strength of women police officers to 5 percent of the total sanctioned police strength.
The IGP said that women police personnel have been invited to attend an exclusive darbar to learn about their practical difficulties and to address them.
He added that women police officers would prove more cooperative to the people and womenfolk would also feel comfortable with them.
The Women Police Darbar was also attended by Karachi additional IGP (AIGP); Sindh AIGP; Traffic AIGP; DIGPs of South, East and Traffic headquarters; Logistics AIGP and Operations AIGP.
