The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders termed the accusations regarding the Mehran Bank scandal, as “an illogical ploy to harass the Sharifs”.
PML-N Information Secretary Mushahid Ullah Khan and Media Coordinator Muhammad Mehdi expressed their views on the Mehrangate scam at a reception.
They said the allegations were not rational and were a “pack of lies”.
They dismissed the accusations levelled by former Mehran Bank resident Younis Habib against PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, saying that it was not believable that Sharif would accept money in the presence of a large group of people.
Habib had also claimed that he had given Rs 3.5 million to Nawaz Sharif and Rs. 2.5 million to Shahbaz Sharif in addition to the millions of rupees he gave to other politicians.
“It does not seem logical that key players were awarded nominal amounts as compared to the junior politicians. The claims made by Habib are contradictory,” they said.
They said the PPP will have to regret its decision to turn Habib against the Sharifs. They stated that the PML-N will be cleared of all the charges.
Asked about PML-N’s demand for snap polls, they stated that the PML-N had not retracted from its original stance. They added that the polls could not be held before the voter lists were completed. They also confirmed that the PML-N was very close to forging alliances with the PML-Q likeminded, JI and the Sunni Tehrik.
