Huge crowds rallied in cities across Syria Thursday in a mass show of support for President Bashar al-Assad “to make the world hear our voice” on the first anniversary of a deadly anti-regime revolt. State television showed tens of thousands of people waving Syrian flags and Assad’s portrait in squares in Damascus, the northern city of Aleppo, Latakia on the Mediterranean coast, Suweida to the south and Hasaka in the northeast. The cities have been relatively unscathed by the regime’s crackdown on a revolt which erupted on March 15, 2011 and has cost more than 8,500 lives, according to opposition activists.
“After a whole year of pressure on Syria, we want to make the world hear our voice: Leave Syria in peace,” a woman on the street told the state broadcaster. According to the official news agency SANA, “millions of Syrians flocked (to the rallies) … to tell the world that the Syrian people have chosen the path of national unity and stability, free from interference and foreign diktats.”
Sarkozy is right, Assad is a murderer. What else would you call him after he killed hundreds of people with snipers on rooftops?
Indeed, Assad and his henchmen have so much blood on their hands that they are no longer concerned with saving Syria, but with saving their own hide.
As a world community governed by universal principals of fairness and empathy for our fellow men we cannot avert our eyes from the crimes against humanity these monsters are committing. Assad has gone beyond the point of any return to civilized governance. He knows it, and we know it.
It is time, therefore, that we deal with him as the criminal he has become.
We had acted with resolve against a similar criminal in Libya and we should act with resolve against this one in Syria now. Russia and China would be prudent to again stay out of the way.
Enough is enough.
Once more, the world has to do what simply needs to be done.
What proofs you have that those SNIPERS were posted by Assad's HENCHMEN? Assad says they were terrorists who were there for precisely the same reason, that is; to make the outside world believe that these were posted by Assad's HENCHMEN. 😉
