ISLAMABAD – A grilling but ambiguous questionnaire, seeking personal views on sensitive national issues such as drone attacks, terrorism and the influence of West on the country’s foreign policy, has been prepared by the police department to screen police officials after the assassination of Salman Taseer by one of his own guards.
The questionnaire, a copy of which is available with Pakistan Today, has been prepared for all police officials and will be given out to them by DPOs.
The officials have also been asked in which wing (traffic, logistics, operation or security) of police they will prefer to work in, also seeking information on their marital status, sect and religion. The questionnaire also seeks information about the family of the police officials, their psychological development and their problems, also requiring the Immediate Supervisory Officer of an individual to state whether a specific police official has any links with banned organizations. Most police personnel belong to the lower ranks and they are not smart enough to respond to these queries encompassing issues of sensitive nature. “We are confused … if we justify drone attacks, we will be traitors and if we oppose them we will be challenging government’s policy on the issue and will be seen as sympathizers of Taliban and militants,” said a police official on condition of anonymity while talking to Pakistan Today.
