Ahmad, who is under treatment, was also brought to the court on a stretcher. “My hopes were not high but today’s hearing has definitely lifted my spirit,” Ahmad said while talking to reporters outside the LHC. Punjab Prosecutor General Sadaqat Ali Khan, supporting the investigation officer, said the accused had a criminal record and more than 25 FIRs of murder, theft, and fight were registered against him. The counsel for accused however argued that his client had nothing to do with the incident.
The Supreme Court also notice of the incident and has sought a report from the provincial chief secretaries of all the four provinces over steps taken to protect the lives and dignity of civil servants. They are asked to file report on or before March 28. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif ordered the Health Department to take care of Ahmad’s medical expenses. He also ordered that the culprits be arrested immediately after which the police conducted the raid and arrested him. Nabeela Ghazanfar, spokesperson of Punjab Police, confirmed the arrest of former MPA saying that the arrest was made by Sargodha Police on the instructions of higher authorities.
