KARACHI – The MQM on Saturday demanded that action be taken against those involved in targeted killings in the city with the backing of a political organisation.
An MQM delegation led by Dr Farooq Sattar met Interior Minister Rehman Malik and briefed him about the situation arising out of the ongoing wave of targeted killings in Karachi.
Sattar presented details about the involvement of a political party in the recent killings in various parts of the city.
Meanwhile, during a press conference at Khursheed Memorial Hall at Nine Zero, MQM Coordination Committee members Gulfraz Khan Khattak, Ashfaq Mangi and Javed Kazmi condemned the murder of former Haq Parast naib nazim Badshah Khan.
They said the targeted killing of Khan was aimed at fuelling ethnic riots in the city.
“Not only Urdu-speaking MQM members, but party members from other communities like Pakhtuns are also being targeted by a political party,” they added.
After a successful public meeting at Bhitshah, the MQM was planning to hold another large public meeting of people from all communities in Karachi but the recent targeted killings are a move to sabotage that public meeting, they claimed.
Separately, MQM chief Altaf Hussain, while speaking with the Rabita Committee members on the phone from London, condemned the assassination of Badshah Khan and said that the murder is a conspiracy against the party.
