Power generation dropped drastically on Sunday resulting in extensive load shedding throughout the country. Unscheduled load shedding remained high in the city despite being a weekly holiday. Outages also remained high on Saturday making impossible for consumers to do their daily tasks. Electricity was closed for one hour after every hour. CNG stations also suspended sales due to power suspension. Sources said that power generation dropped drastically in recent days. “Water in Mangla and Tarbela dams is touching the dead level causing decrease in power generation while projection from oil and gas is already very low,” said a Water and Power Ministry official adding that PEPCO had once again failed to cope with the situation.
Consumers said that LESCO and PEPCO had failed to provide any relief to them. “There is no schedule of load shedding in the last three days and power could be closed at any time,” consumer Riaz Asghar said. Various city areas, including Model Town, Johar Town, Allama Iqbal Town, WAPDA Town, Garden Town, Wahdat Road, Mughalpura and others faced immense load shedding.
