Women are not weak; rather they have extraordinary patience and courage which nature has given them and just like males, they can be and are useful for the construction of a productive society. These views were expressed on Friday by Sarwat Mohyuddin in her presidential speech on the occasion of a mushaira arranged by Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) to mark the International Women’s Day. Sarwat further said that women in Pakistan were now more aware of their rights and the way how to protect them and were stronger than ever.
Fauzia Sheikh said that women were playing an important role in social, economic and political sectors. Parveen Tahir, known poet and teacher, presented a thought-provoking article on women writers. Abida Taqi, Fakhira Noreen, Shehnaz Faryad, Rifat Waheed, Rashida Maheen Malik, Farah Deeba, Nusrat Masood, Tabassum Ikhlaq, Mehmooda Ghazia, Parveen Tahir and Sarwat Mohyuddin following women poets participated in the poetry recitation.
