The 12th death anniversary of renowned folk singer of Pakistan Pathanay Khan was observed on Friday across the country.
Pathanay Khan was born in 1926 in the village Basti Tambu Wali, situated in the heart of the Thal Desert, several miles from Kot Addu.
He was a great Seraiki folk singer from Pakistan. He sang mostly Kafis or Ghazals, which were largely based on the Sufi poetry of Khawaja Ghulam Farid and Shah Hussain.
Pathanay Khan was totally devoted to Khawaja Farid. He gave his own deeper meaning to Khawaja Sahib’s poetry through his typical style and spirit of singing.
Pathanay Khan introduced many great but unknown poets of Seraiki belt through their dhoras that appeared as a preamble to kafis.
Pathanay Khan died after a protracted illness at his native town of Kot Addu on March 9, 2000.
He was receipient of President’s Pride of Performance Award.
