Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Dost Mohammad Khan on Thursday suggested secret and law enforcement agencies categorise militants, as the judge believed the move could make the task of apprehending them easier. The PHC CJ said this while leading a two-member bench, also consisting of Justice Seth Waqar Ahmad, that was hearing petition pertaining two missing brothers. The representatives of secret agencies had expressed ignorance of the brothers’ whereabouts. The bench issued a notice to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary for submitting a reply into the matter.
During the hearing, the CJ suggested the secret agencies categorise the militants. In this respect, he said high-profile militants may be put in Category A, while the remaining may be categorised B and C. He said low-profile militants put in category C or B may be released on assurances of remaining peaceful. However, an SHO of the police station concerned must be directed to supervise the released person. The court also recorded the statement of Sher Ali of Swat who was produced before the court. Sher Ali alleged that he was picked around 18 months ago and put in interrogation and internment centres. He said his brother Akhtar Ali was also missing.
