Scores of MBBS students from different medical colleges along with the Punjab Young Doctors Association (YDA) ransacked the University of Health Sciences (UHS) after barging through the varsity gate on Thursday.
The students reached the UHS around 11am and were later joined by the YDA Punjab office bearers and other doctors from Jinnah and Services hospitals. They forced their way into the varsity through the back gate and reportedly broke the main and the wooden door. They also allegedly beat up the university guard and a driver.
The students then took over the varsity offices and brought the entire working of the university to a standstill for the entire day.
Scores of police officials were also present on the occasion; however, sources claimed that they had received instructions not to “touch” any student.
As per details, the Punjab YDA has put its weight behind the protesting students on Thursday and the entire episode had been pre-planned. YDA President Dr Hamid Butt, YDA Jinnah President Dr Javaid were also present.
MBBS students have been demonstrating against the results which failed them and demanding revision of the aforementioned results. However, there is no precedent of the students taking over the UHS and stopping its entire activities.
