The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Wednesday released a fresh video of the abducted Vice Chancellor of University of Peshawar Dr Ajmal Khan.
Dr Ajmal appealed for his recovery from the Taliban in the video.
“I am asking the teachers and student unions to become active and play an active role for my safe release from the custody of the Taliban,” Ajmal Khan appealed.
Dr Ajmal Khan stated in the video, “I am in custody of Taliban for 18 months and the government has refused to accept their demands.” He requested the government of Pakistan to do something for him.
He added that the “government is not taking any measures for me and I appeal to the teachers and students organisations to make some efforts to recover me”.
“Another vice chancellor of Kohat University was also abducted by the Taliban but government has managed his release by accepting demands of the Taliban,” Ajmal said, adding that in his case government was not doing anything. Since 2007, Taliban have kidnapped several professors and doctors. They often target foreign aid workers in Pakistan in hope of securing huge sums of ransom for their release. In an earlier video message, Ajmal Khan explained that he was abducted while going to his office for being a relative of Awami National Party (ANP) leader Asfandyar Wali and a government officer.
