‘CDA to ensure food quality’

Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Farkhand Iqbal directed the Health Services Directorate (HSD) of the authority on Tuesday to take effective measures for the provision of quality food and edible items at the hotels, restaurants and shops located in the federal capital. He issued the directives while meeting with the HSD officers. CDA Health Services Director said strict monitoring was being carried out at hotels, restaurants, shops, bakeries, meat shops, wholesale stores and school and college cafeterias in the capital city. He added that during the last year, health officers raided food outlets and collected samples from 5765 shops.
Out of these, 2423 shops have been served notices and 1278 were fined for violating hygiene regulations and for serving substandard items. He stated that the HSD monitoring teams also collected 1942 samples from milk and dairy-shops and issued 766 challans to shopkeepers. The CDA chairman instructed the HSD to improve the inspection procedure and to keep an eye on the city’s food outlets, especially those in sectors G-6, G-7, I-10, G-9, F-7, F-11 and F-10. He directed that strict action be taken against the violators. He said the month of March would be observed as the month of milk and water to generate awareness among the public. He asked the HSD to raid milk and dairy-shops that sell substandard milk and dairy products. He also directed the formations concerned of the authority to take remedial measures against the sale of substandard beverages and other cold-drinks to save the precious lives of citizens.
